aftermarket Headlight LED re-do

well, i hated the fact that the LED's went out in the lamps shortly after i got them and the company would not back their product... so i unhooked them... finally had some time to fix them... just got started and figured i would share my progress...

first put the stock lamps back in

then remove the clips

undo the bulbs

bake in the oven at 200* for 10 min

that is where i am at so far, will hope to finish them up tonight... i am still on the fence though, i am going to redo the halo's in hyper white, do the 5 - 5mm LED's along the bottom in hyper white, but i also have a ton of the 3mm hyper white LED's as well... i am thinking about drilling and tapping some of those in there... but who knows may just do this for now... ill post pics as i solder in the resisters and make the boards and what not... but that is where i am at so far

Re: aftermarket Headlight LED re-do

so spent some time planning out how i was going to do this... rather than replacing the halo's with aftermarket that anyone could buy i instead chose to redo the shitty stock ones... gutted the blue LED's and installed hyper white, got them in place soldered in my resisters... and one side is done

Re: aftermarket Headlight LED re-do

I run white hypers on the side on my Gen II's, they make a huge difference. I did think of re-doing my halos in the same, but haven't had time to that or anything else on my WJ yet.

Looks sweet! While you're in there....you can attack that orange reflector too

Wrap that bitch in carbon fiber wrap, or paint it?

Re: aftermarket Headlight LED re-do

I did not think about the reflector... maybe i can tint it! or just shoot it flat black, that is a great idea thanks!

well i got one side done... i used some hot glue to hold them in place while the real glue set up on the 5 across the bottom...hot glue prob would have been fine but i have to put these back in the oven at 200* for 10 min to re seal them... did not want to have the hot glue melt out and become an issue... i am using superglue gel, on them, works great, i do it on motorcycle lamps all the time when i light them up... you just have to be careful not to get any on the tip of the LED itself as it will fog up... coming out great!

Re: aftermarket Headlight LED re-do

Those halo rings look like the should now...nice and bright! The way they look out of the box is a little dim for my liking. I had those same lights and decided after a year to upgrade to the CCFL rings on the Gen3 projectors.

Yeah dude...I don't know about you, but I can't stand that orange. I'm sure someone on here will chime in about my deep-seeded hatred for "amber" lenses...heheheh.

I actually sent a set of amber lenses to get carbon-fiber dipped to JNL Hydrographics. They will eventually replace the ones I have in now, which are 3M vinyl wrapped. That will wait until the spring though.

Re: aftermarket Headlight LED re-do

hahaha don't worry. They have group meetings for these types of things. I'm a memeber of the I Hate Chrome group. Thank god they haven't put those in headlights yet!

@JRK: but honestly, great looking Jeep! I agree with Tony that you should do something with the orange-amber since you've already got the lights open.
