Anyone paint their headlight bezels?

I have the limited full-chrome headlights and I'm thinking of painting the bezels black and pulling the amber reflectors. how did the original seal go back together on these lights? I've pulled my lexus is300's apart, and they had plenty of seal on them, so I could just heat gun them back together real easy with no worries of leaking.

if you did the lexus lamps...the Jeeps will be no problem. BUT...they make a gen 3 black headlight for the WJ with a projector. Try ebay and search gen 3 grand cherokee headlamp

Re: Anyone paint their headlight bezels?

you will need to reseal them good. I used 3M window weld ribbon. no mess. get the 1/4 and you can pull it a bit to fit in the channel.

I loaded it in. then i heated the whole light up to about 200 degrees for 10 minutes. then i put the pieces back together. I used strap clamps. sort of like a mini rachet strap or tie down to give them a good squeeze. clamp for 24 hours for the glue to completely set.

this is the preferable method if you ever need to open them again, you just heat them up.

some use silicone, which could be trouble of you need to do it again.

I've read many places that silicone is a terrible sealant in headlights on the is300 forums, a lot of guys have seal issues after a few months (these guys removed all the stock glue and siliconed the headlights together) my last project I just reused the oem glue. supposedly silicone has very poor sealing qualities after it is heated up once. I'd be more interested in finding OEM headlight glue, its almost like a putty silicone, rather than a rubber silicone.

Re: Anyone paint their headlight bezels?

if you read my post, i am suggesting 3M window weld, its a butyl rubber sealant, EXACTLY the same as OEM use to seal headlights...............

thanks ya, I've seen em all - 3rd gen's got the right fit and style my only problem is I would change out those gaudy white/blue led's in the upper sidemarkers - to some amber led's...

This is a project truck for me that I'm trying to get done for DIY cost, as I plan to sell it in the spring...
