Anyone run a 55w HID kit in the Gen III Projectors without issues?

I'd like to, But I'm not sure if it's safe or not. I appreciate the feedback. I like the extra light but would 35w be sufficient? I'm running a 55w in the stock Limited reflectors and have them aimed well but would like to in the Gen III projectors if I didn't hear about the heat issues.

I am running the DDM 55w 5K HID kit for my low beams in the Gen3 housings with no problems at all. Due to the higher wattage the 5K color is washed out and it looks more along the lines of 4-4.5K.
I would highly recommend them, the 55w kit defiantly puts out more light!

bill38jeep: 1) Thanks for the response, I've been running a 55w 4500k and it's pretty white but I've heard the 55w 5000k is the whitest white you can get, What do you think? 2) Do you have any night shots of the spread from the projectors with the 55w kit or any night drive videos? 3) You drive the Jeep in the first pic? What happened to the red Jeep in your signature?

I think they are very white, I'd say close to 4300K. I dont have any pics of the beam, sorry. Lastly, yes I drive the silver Jeep now, the red one was totaled.

That's cool, I was just curious if the DDM 55w @ 4500k was whiter than the DDM 55w @ 5000k. Also, sorry to hear that, that's a damn fine signature pic

black_wj: Cool man, appreciate the feedback. I just wanted to make sure before I purchased a Gen III. How is the 55w in the projectors? Can you tell a big difference from 35w?

I know this is a bit off topic but I have Gen III projectors but the housing says non HID or Xenon compatible? Is that true or can I still get HIDs?

Re: Anyone run a 55w HID kit in the Gen III Projectors without issues?

I'm pretty sure most users on here with the Gen III projectors use 35w HID kits in them and some even use the 55w HID and have experienced no problems. It really doesn't make any sense to me when some of the sellers claim that they are not HID compatible possibly due to heat issues when standard 35w, as most know, generate less heat. As for the "Xenon" bulbs, I wouldn't even mess with those, they're a waste in my opinion. As long as you are sure it's a Gen III with the standard 9005 and 9006 connectors then you should be good.

Re: Anyone run a 55w HID kit in the Gen III Projectors without issues?

i believe the reason why they say no hids in the gen 3 headlights is because 9006 is not a ture HID bulb and the light aim is centered compared to real hids. also another way to void the warranty

only down side to 55W over 35 W is more power so more heat which can cause effect on headlight lends after years also since the bulb is burning brighter the life is reduced
