CCFL Rings

My CCFL rings on my Gen III headlights arn't as bright now compared when to when I first purchased them. I hard wired everything in by soldering the LED and CCFL wiring together and then spliced, soldered and heat shrunk to the park light wiring to complete the circuit. I have rechecked the earth wiring and all is solid.
I had to replace 1 x Starter box (the little black box) for the CCFL's through which that tiny wiring is joined to the LEDs, as 1 of them never worked when I purchased them.

Any ideas as to what I have done wrong or not considered as yet?

Thinking of changing my user name to Passion Fingers to suit my on going repair record....lol

Re: CCFL Rings

So you replaced the CCFL Inverter that powers them? Maybe the CCFL ring is going bad.

Re: CCFL Rings

I would run your LED's seperate of the box wiring. In other words, run your LED wiring directly to the parking light circuit, then run seperate lines to power the inverter/starter box for the CCFL rings. In the process, check VERY closely for broken wires. The tiny wires that go from the back of the headlight to the inverter easily break internally. Same with the wires that come attached to the inverter box. As for the ring itself being bad, I think that can only happen if the ring is broken and the gas has escaped. If that's not the case, wiring along the way has to be the culprit.

Re: CCFL Rings

Thanks for the info guys,
Is there a logical reason as to why the manufacturer has used such thin wiring?

Made in China...that's the only logical explanation I can come up with...hehehhehe

I'm not sure if this would work for for you but I use this. I only have 1 CCFL ring on each side not 2 and it's inside the shroud so not all of it is seen.

lol, that's a very good point. Sometimes it's easy to forget there are gases in the ring.

Re: CCFL Rings

Success,

Stripped back the wiring again and separated the LEDs and inverter and it is now brighter.
Noticed that one of the rings has a flicker to it, so I will order a couple new inverters to be on the safe side.

Thanks again for the great advise
