Actually, finding a piece of 1-1.5 inch thick steel and having it cut by a shop is fairly pricey. if you stack several pieces together, you have the time of welding them together and grinding them down. as well, if you take them the bracket and tell them you want it bent in the same measurements, that will cost you design time plus cutting/forming then having to put in your time for welding. if everything is laser cut (the ones mentioned are) you have to pay the fee to have all of the parts cut. If I were to make a pair exactly like what they are selling and I did it all myself, sure I could get away with a lower price. But having someone else make them for me like a shop, it would cost me twice the price they are asking for them. And to have it ready to bolt on and already powder coated, I'd be willing to pay their price.
If you can do anything yourself, do it! Don't knock on someone else's design and price just because you think you could do it cheaper. You couldn't mass produce them for resale and get it any cheaper than they are. S4XC makes some quality stuff for our Grands and are great people to deal with. I'm glad there are some out there that support building parts for our Grands!
