D-ring mounts

I've noticed a few WJs (mines and 03) with d-rings mounted to the front, where factory tow hooks go.

Are there bolt on d-ring mounts that can be purchase. I can seem choose the right phrase when searching..here or anywhere else.

Id prefer d-rings, but if i have to i'll buy some tow hooks, which i've got no problem finding

my google-fu is failing me, and i apologize

Re: D-ring mounts

Found This at Rusty's. You have to buy the tow hook kit and then add their D ring kit but there should be an easier way.http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchan...y_Code=rec_hit

Re: D-ring mounts

Not trying to be a jerk, but those D-ring shackle mounts look too easy to be made...escpecially for like $100. Just take your old brackets into a machine shop and say you would like a bracket made to support these holes... then say you would want a or 1.5" thick peice of steel about 7" long or so running perpindicular to the mounting brackets...blah blah. it goes on, but i bet a set just as good if not far better could be made for a fraction of the price.

A couple things here, they sell for $100+ for the mounting bracket and the D-ring shackle.

If you go to a machine shop and ask for them to build the bracket and D-ring, they're going to charge you a standard labor rate of ~$100/hr. Making only 2 of these will take at least 1 hour. I doubt there's any savings.

Re: D-ring mounts

Fabing my own d-ring mounts is an idea i've considered, since i've got a machine shop right here at the office, and i'm a mechanical designer. I could make the drawings email them to the shop, and have a set in a few days..lol. Convincing the machinist to squeeze in this personal project it whole different matter.

I just need to get my bumper cover off and take some measurements.

haha. a place where my friend used to work would do stuff like that. he would have to bribe the plant workers with a large pizzas to do his little random jobs. give that a try...

** and if you ever do make any, be sure to put pics up with measurements... or just a PDF of the CAD drawing would be sufficient.

Re: D-ring mounts

AJ maybe you can adapt these somehow. 10,000# capacity and the price is certainly right. http://www.harborfreight.com/1-2-hal...ing-96232.html

Those look like they could mount directly in place of the stock tow hooks. Remove the stock tow hooks from their mounting bracket and install those. But then you would have to find bolts that could withstand 10k pounds of shear force.
