Door Window doesn't work

Ok what gives.....within 3 days, the '99 GC drivers window stops working (won't go down...cant hear any noise)....and the '00 GC passenger front window stops working (same issue). Haven't had time to dig into it yet.

What is the the most common failure mode?? Broken wire at the door hinge, or????
thanks,
Mike S

Re: Door Window doesn't work

Mostly if a wire breaks in the door boot, windows and door locks stop working and the interior lights won´t go off (except with dimmer in full dim).
I would try a battery reset first, because the door module can freeze. If that doesn´t help, check for any broken wire in the door boot. If also ok, you will need to get access to the window motor and see when you put 12v directly on it, if it works.

Re: Door Window doesn't work

My 99 wj "shrek" has had both issues. motor gone bad, AND broken wires in the space between door and body. As anyone who has had to deal with those wires knows, they are a bit of a pain in the tookas. I would rather pull door apart and replace the motor and regulator assembly than splice a wire in that cramped area. perhaps it is due to the fact that I don't have hands like a 9 year old.

Re: Door Window doesn't work

Time to blow the dust off this old thread.....I finally took a look at the '99 drivers door and found no broken wires in the hinge area. Pulled the door panel off & tried jumping 12 volts directly to the motor and it will make a very small jerk noise but there is no movement, even when the leads are reversed. I guess this means it's time to order a motor mechanism.....

Re: Door Window doesn't work

BTW, those of you have had problems with broken wires in the hinge area.....I've found it's a lot easier to splice in a longer "patch" wire than to try to splice the ends of the original wires back together. I make up a 5 inch long jumper wire which I coil into a loop when splicing it into the orignal wires. This gives the wires some extra slack so they are not a as likely to kink & re-break.

Re: Door Window doesn't work

Update.....the failure was indeed the motor itself. The replacement motor & assembly was not a perfect match when it arrived & I had to modify it to work (there was an extra mounting plate for the motor itself).
