Re: electric door locks

I presume that you have a 99-04 Grand Cherokee?Does the key unlock all other doors? Does the drivers door lock/unlock using the remote or the internal door lock/unlock switch?

Re: electric door locks

2004 Grand Cherokee Special Edition. Ignition Key and remote will not unlock or lock the driver door, but will the other three doors and the tailgate. If locked from one of the other doors, and you try to enter driver door, the panic alarm will go off and you have to be inside sitting before it will stop. Crazy. What I have been doing to prevent this is just to not lock anything. Any ideas?

Re: electric door locks

The drivers door lock is activated via the drivers door module (the module which sits behind the door switches). All other doors are activated via the passengers door module. The module can sometime freeze up and stop working. I would start disconnecting the battery for some 10 minutes and try again. This will reset a frozen module. If this doesn´t help, have a look into the drivers door rubber boot, where the wires run through from the body to the door. Sometimes a broken wire can cause problems you have now.
If also nothing wrong there, then the drivers door module can be bad. Does the drivers window still work?
There is also a lock switch in the drivers door latch mechanism. This switch should tell to the BCM (body control module) that the alarm should be deactivated and also the interior lights switched on. Could be a problem with this switch.

Re: electric door locks

Good morning,

I saw that you were leaving the forum - thanks for taking time to try and help with the door lock problem.

To follow up from yesterday, hubby disconnected the battery and reconnected - did not help the problem. Removed the door panel and rechecked for broken wires - there were none. Also checked the switch, which was also operational. So, we will assume the problem lies in the module in the driver's door and will have our great mechanic fix the problem.

Many, many thanks again for taking your time to help us.

Re: electric door locks

Me leaving jeepgarage? No, that was only an april fools day joke.
Where the wires checked in the rubber boot in between the body and door? After flexing many times when opening/closing the door, its common for a wire to break in there. When you lock the doors with internal lock switch, does the drivers door lock then? Can all windows be opened/closed from drivers door switches? Just want to make sure that the drivers door module is the problem.
