Re: Electric folding door mirror.

Then it was a case of sliding the sleeve and rubber bung back along the wiring harness enabling me to create some slack to be able to separate the two parts enough to gain access to the motor/gear housing:

I then slackened off the 4 Torx head screws and removed the top of the housing to reveal the motor and gears:

The old gears had a lot of wear compared to the new ones:

Re: Electric folding door mirror.

The ends of the new gear sets were too tight a fit in the housings and the gears would have had a tough time turning freely due to the ends not being machined down enough so did a bit of very careful machining down myself!!

Re: Electric folding door mirror.

The new gear sets in position and spray greased ready for re-assembly which was a very awkward process but with the help of another set of fingers belonging to my neighbour! The longer gear that sits in the 'lid' of the housing had a tendency to drop out while trying to locate it back onto the housing!

Re: Electric folding door mirror.

Got it all back together eventually and now works perfectly much to my amazement!

Re: Electric folding door mirror.

.......only had to use two of the gears supplied so I have a spare set and I didn't bother replacing the small worm gear on the motor shaft as this seemed to be in fairly good condition, (It wasn't broke so I didn't fix it, goes the old saying!) plus the fact I didn't want to risk messing up the nice tight fit it obviously has on the motor shaft and I guess it probably has to be positioned on the shaft in precisely the right position to mesh properly with the worm drive. A successful mission I think!

Re: Electric folding door mirror.

Hey, Thanks Frank! Hopefully it will be of use to someone, I have more pictures and kept things fairly brief in the write up but if anyone needs to know more i'd be glad to oblige, happy Jeeping!
