Re: Finally........... painted side claddings

Looks awesome! Nice work! Nothing sucks more than having to constantly dress tired/faded plastic. I had the same issue on my old XJ and finally just got new flares and had them painted to match.

Nothing special, did a quick wash, sprayed simple green/degreaser to clean the claddings. Let dry. Taped it up and started painting. Did 3-4 coats. No clear.
Have rubbing compound and polish ready incase of overspray.

Thanks man, Took me almost a year to decide if I was going to paint those damn claddings. Should have done it a long time ago and saved myself the headache, LoL!

Re: Finally........... painted side claddings

Nice job looks great,,,a little trick is some brake parts cleaner to get all the grease and grime off. Then use a small propane torch to quickly heat the molded siding and bring it back to proper color. Make sure you have an adjustable nozzle to control the flame (heat) and just remember to keep moving...it'll change the faded color back quickly so keep it moving. Don't worry if it seems a little darker in some area's you can go over it again until the color completely blends, it takes all of 30 mins. A good heat gun also works but awhile longer. You can also use Kiwi liquid shoe polish (slush/scratch cover) pour a bottle or two in a small bowl, get a good sponge and put it on liberally and then wipe in with a micro-fiber towel. Both of these work perfect for us Wrangler owner's too with the faded factory flares.

Re: Finally........... painted side claddings

Looks nice. The faded trim is why I hunted down a Columbia Edition with all the painted trim pieces. Now to get those door handles looking better...

Yao you removed the front bumper but did you leave the rear one on? And what about the black step plate on top of the rear bumper? Did you just leave that and paint over it as well? Looks great though
