Front Window Regulator Kaput

The 99 Laredo we just purchased had supposedly had the front passenger window regulator replaced / repaired. However, we find that the window will go down, but struggles to go up & there's lots of motor noise going on with the glass not moving (it comes up about 4 inches & stops).

I've read somewhere that it's common for a plastic piece that holds the cable to break, and a repair can be done without replacing the whole unit....anyone recall the details? The dealer is willing to pay for the repair (gosh it's a good thing we got a decent deal.....)
thanks,
Mike Sal

Re: Front Window Regulator Kaput

Took the door panel off tonight & extracted the regulator. The dealer's mechanic had indeed replaced the regulator, but somehow had gotten it into a bind apparently. The plastic part was not broken, but the cable had come off of the pulley on the drive motor & gotten tangled up.

Taking the screws out to separate the cable pulley from the motor gave me access to re-wind the cables. After getting it back together, I held the tension springs compressed while Sonya re-wrapped the cable around the idler pulley & we were back in business.

Not sure what caused it to get tangled up, but let's hope it stays together!
