Re: Gauge cluster upgrade

Got the 5 main ones in, I just gotta take it apart again to make sure they're facing the right way so the gauges are all lit up properly, then I'll take an after pic. Still waitin on the Sonic Blue Needle Kit, soon enough though. The LED bulb install is a piece of cake:
1.Disconnect the negative on the battery. 2.Drop the steering wheel as far as it will go. 3.Pop off the piece below the gauge window. 4.Take out 4 Phillips head screws and pop out the gauge cluster. 5.Disconnect the wiring harness. 6.Take the gauge cluster out and you'll see the bulb bases. Twist em to the left, take em out, take the old bulb out, pop in the new one, and put 'er all back together.

The WJ is a totally different animal than the WK.

The WJ is a DIYer's dream... pop the bulbs out and replace them... pop the old pointers off and replace them.

The WK dial set and pointers are lighted by LED's... No plug and play here, kids

I am HAPPY to quote any WK for a color mod, though...

To the OP... Great job on tracking down the parts for this mod. I can't wait to see the finished product

Bob

Re: Gauge cluster upgrade

Bob have you tried messing with the Indiglo Limited/Overland cluster? It was cool at first but now it's just an ugly bright green to me now

Re: Gauge cluster upgrade

Bravo! I really want to do this now!

That looks awesome and it looks as if the gauge cluster is brighter as well.

What kit/setup did you end up going with?

Re: Gauge cluster upgrade

It does look A LOT better and it is brighter. I put 5 in for 2 big and 2 small gauges from Super Bright LEDs in Cool White (looks blue but it turned out good anyhow):

74-CWHP3

Dunno if I'm going to go the warning gauges or not, they're already bright and rarely on. And I'm waiting for the Sonic Blue Needle Kit from Import Intelligence to get here so I can do the needles too.

Alright cool. I definitely want to do it but probably in a 5K color.

Re: Gauge cluster upgrade

Looks great Gus! It's definitely an improvement.

Amelie - I used 5K from V-Led's on my gauges to match my interior, and it turned out really blue. I don't know what is causing the blue tint to it, I think I'm going to take it apart tonight and make sure there's not a film across the inside causing it to appear blue.
