The blue film seems to be integrated into the gauges and not removable. Although I really wanted the white gauges look, the blue looks really nice too so I'm not going to risk breaking anything over this one.
Regardless I definitely plan on doing this as long as I don't f*** up

Re: Gauge cluster upgrade

I read somewhere that the lights for the temperature control area are PC74's. After I get my damn gauge needle kit (goin nuts waitin for it lol) I'm gonna start with the other lighting, like the temperature controls, door switch lights, maybe the EVIC, etc.

Sounds like a great plan! The PC74 fits for the manual temperature controls, but not the Automatic HVAC I believe. If you have the manual, it's like 6 74's. I'll be ordering my door switches and gear shift lighting this week so we'll probably get our interior done about the same time.

Re: Gauge cluster upgrade

What sizes are you going to use for your door switches and gear shift?

Re: Gauge cluster upgrade

For the switches, probably 3 mm Component LED's from superbrightleds.com. For the gearshift, 2 LED strips laid over the current lighting as the gearshift lighting cannot be replaced w/ another color.

Re: Gauge cluster upgrade

Cool, I was thinkin the same thing for the gear shift lighting. I'll probably run two side by side, maybe stagger one a lil bit so the light covers evenly unless I say screw it and "disable" the stock lighting.

Hey Gus there's a plug at the back of the shifter for that factory light thing. You could unplug it and then run your leds from it.

Holy cow, you beautiful soul! I know I'm not Gus, but that's a brilliant idea. So much better than pulling trim and running wires.

Re: Gauge cluster upgrade

registered to view this thread. it's really looking cool, cant wait to see the needles you ordered. I'm wondering if theres some way to make the Odo blue too, maybe add a yellow film with the cluster apart?

Re: Gauge cluster upgrade

This is a great site, there's A LOT more ideas around here and A LOT of knowledgeable people here too. I thought about the Odo when I had the cluster off, I just don't want to take it apart and either screw somethin up or brake somethin. That'll probably change when I get the rest of the dash, A/C, and door switch lighting done though.

Re: Gauge cluster upgrade

yeah im super tempted to order a bunch of 74-CWHP3 and T1.5 series LED in CW and get started on this myself. I think the blue will look really good with an alpine headunit. Keep me updated on the door switches and shifter lights though, I'm not even sure what bulbs are in there to begin with so I have no idea how to replace those.
