Grille Insert

So I was reading my Haynes Manual on how to remove said insert and its telling me that I have to pull the entire front end off my jeep. I have a silver insert right now and I want to put a black one in. Has anyone else changed this insert and if so did you have to pull off the entire bumper do so.

there are 3 types of of front ends on the WJ type A, B, C
a 04 is a type c http://www.wjjeeps.com/grilles/grill...htm#FASCIAREMC

No man...you don't need to pull the bumper off...the grill comes out very easily actually. Haynes sux for stuff like this.

Alright I appreciate it, now do you think it would be better to buy a new black one or should I just paint the one I have?

That all depends on your painting skills...just remember, it's the GRILLE, so it's the first thing you see, and it takes quite a beating from rocks, bugs, etc. A pro paint job might be the smartest route to go if you're wanting an all black grille.
If you're going to rattle can it, just be prepared to re-do every once in awhile. Someone on here plasti-dipped theirs, but that stuff is designed to peel off, so I'm not sure how durable it is. Check out the WJ section or appearance section. He had pics if I remember correctly.

Yeah, well by do it myself I mean have my uncle help who owns a bodyshop. So the paint will look very nice.
