Just buy a headlight restore kit if you're going to do this. The kit comes w/ the polish, cloth, and drill attachment for $15-$20. The drill attachment will allow you to actually polish them.

Toothpaste works b/c the grit in it acts like a polish.

i used penetrol on mine. they look great after a month so far. penetrol also works darn good on faded plastic trim. for those who dont know its a paint additive available at home depot. foam brush or rag to apply and let it dry. your mileage may vary. try it at your own risk. i like the results

Here's a quick temporary fix! Dampen a rag with WD40 and rub it on the lens. It temporarily fills in the scratches and clears up the lens. Re do when necessary.
