headlights

I have a 99 Grand Cherokee, I replaced them when I got the Jeep because they were foggy (not clear) So I got 2 from the salvage yard. And now they have become foggy also. Any idea what is causing this. They are not cheap to replace.

Re: headlights

I used these, and they are certainly inexpensive enough to not worry about doing the polishing several times per year:

Sometimes you get moisture inside the headlights when you install aftermarket HID bulbs, it doesn't seal as the stock bulbs. That happens not just on Jeeps but on other makes as well.
Do you have HIDs?

What others are referring to here is oxidation on the exterior of the plastic headlight lens and that can easily be fixed by buffing that out either by doing it yourself by buying a headlight restoration kit from a auto parts store or taking it to a professional detailer (recommended) and they'll look as new again.

Good luck!

Re: headlights

I've got a used set of Limited lenses if you're interested. I think just regular maintenance is the only thing you can do. Polish them once a month...or when you wash it.

If you're up for DIY you can easily wetsand and buff them back to looking like new. Just takes a couple hours and fine sandpaper.

Re: headlights

It's been noted quite a bit that polishing the stock lenses works, but doesn't have a very long life. It seems there is a protective coating on the plastic that you need to remove to actually get to the polished finish. If you have a good buffing wheel and the proper powder, sure, try it. But, if not, how much do you value your own time in getting to a polished lens?
