HID kits for my WJ

Hi all Im looking for a HID kit to install to my WJ 2004.
Are there any kits better than the other?
Can I buy some kit from ebay I can use?
Are the bulbs just regular H7 halogen bulbs or what?

Best to all

Jinx

Re: HID kits for my WJ

When I upgrade to HID's I plan on purchasing from xenondepot, who is a vendor here on the forum. I believe many others on the forum would recommend them, and they offer discounts for forum members. Do you have projector housings? I hear that HID lights will scatter a lot in stock housings.

Re: HID kits for my WJ

I went with Xenon Depot in Gen3 housings. The customer support prior to ordering from XD was outstanding on here.

I got the 9006 Xtreme HID Philips 4300k kit and it looks completely OEM.

Everything you need is included in the pack and the install took about 2 hours.

Good luck!

Exactly what he said...XenonDepot is the best, and the kit's work perfectly with the Gen3 projectors. I did the Xtreme HID kit as well at 5000k.

Re: HID kits for my WJ

First of all is the kit easy to install in the original front lights on my WJ 2004?
How much is the kit and can you figure out for me the shipping cost to Iceland area code 815?
I want to know how much everything is so I can figure out things with the Icelandic customs, they are a PITA.

Re: HID kits for my WJ

Jinx,

1) Can you please confirm what type of bulbs your vehicle uses for the low beams? Sometimes, European headlights use different bulbs than North American headlights so I want to make sure you get the right bulbs.

2) Send me a PM with your full shipping address so that I can get you a quote.

3) Installation is plug+play.

Steve

Re: HID kits for my WJ

Installation wise I would say the hardest thing is getting your cables in the right spot, mine are a PITA so I had to do a lot of readjusting(moving the cables around behind the headlight due to the 3 ball-and-socket joints, and making sure nothing was underneath where the screw is.

Depending on your ballast side I would say the best place to put your ballast is outside the headlight area on the front pillar surrounding the radiator fan(it was white for me but that's b/c my Jeep is white) make sure you have zipper ties that are longer than 7mm/in/cm(whatever size they are can't remember off the top of my head) the zipties that came with my HID's were' not even close to long enough to be fit around anything(bought mine from HIDHeadlights.com[shitty service, cheap price ]) other than that make sure they are secure and snug and away from anything important because they heat up..

Also make sure you align your new headlights correctly. Here's a link on how to do it; http://www.wjjeeps.com/lamps/headlamps.htm

Re: HID kits for my WJ

Before you consider any HID kits or setups make sure you at least going to put these in the Gen III projectors. Definitely don't run them in the stock. I did when I first started out and made sure they were low and I was really never flashed but of course sitting on an incline I did sometimes. Most anyone who knows something about HID will tell you that a wire harness is essential. On my initial setup I had the DDM harness bolted onto the battery and I guess I didn't secure it close enough to the terminals because when I would drive around sometimes hitting a bump in the road would shut the lights off. I had a fear of driving at night for a while until I worked out the kinks. lol

XenonDepot: Quality, Customer Service, and if you have the money. I've heard many great stories, read great reviews, and have seen wonderful pictures of setups with XenonDepot.

DDM: If you're looking to try the HID experience but are a little money conscious at the moment. I've heard their ballasts aren't bad but I'm not a fan of their capsules. Maybe get DDM ballasts and combine it with a quality bulb from XenonDepot. One of the biggest things I hear people warn about DDM is that they offer both a 35w and a 55w kit but their capsule or bulbs only support 35w but DDM states that their capsule/bulbs are rated up to 60w. That's plenty of room for deviation with the 35w but if you're running a 55w I wouldn't bet on that 5w protection lol.

The Retrofit Source (TRS): They have their own line of ballasts known as "Morimoto". Their quality is excellent but they're a little pricey costing more than an entire DDM kit but you get what you pay for. Their Morimoto 3Five (35w) ballasts start at $110 and their 9006 HID capsules go for $45. I run a 3k version of the 3Five capsules and they have been excellent so far.

Re: HID kits for my WJ

Thanks for all the comments.
It looks like it might be a problem getting the kit trough customs in Iceland.
Ill get better news on that later.
