HID options

Seems like its a little bit of a beat up topic on this site but i am curious as to your opinion. I have never ran HIDs or have any knowledge of them. I want to run a dark housing with the whitest brightest ouput possible. anyone have pointers?

also is it possible to run both high and low beams as hid? Id like to have the ccfl halo as well
thanks
adam

Re: HID options

For the dark housing, I strongly recommend the CCFL Gen 3 projectors. They look nice and have a great output. Throw in a pair of 5000K HID's and you'll light up a frogs rear from half a mile away.

It is not recommended to put HID's in your high beams. As they take a few moments to warm up and turn on, you would then lose your ability to flash your brights at someone or other times when you would need them on immediately.

We have quite a few vendors here, such as XenonDepot that sell high-quality bulbs.

Re: HID options

Exactly what CameronG said!

From what I have heard HID's in the low almost negate the need for high beams anyway. For how little they are used and the fact that they would be cycled off and on they really aren't practical for the highs. Look on ebay, you can easily find the gen 3 projectors in black housing with the ccfl halos.

And definitely check out xenondepot for a hid kit, many forum users rate them highly and they offer a discount code for forum members to use.

Re: HID options

^^^ I agree with everything they said. HID's in the high beam is pointless and not very practical. Here is a picture of the Gen III's to help you find them on Ebay. They use the same factory bulb sizes as the OEM headlights so it will be 9006 for the Low Beam and 9005 for the High Beam.

I made a small how-to guide in our DIY section that might be of some help.

Re: HID options

I agree with the other 3 100%. I have Gen III's, they look good and have great output both in the city and even better in the country side.

Re: HID options

If you want the brightest and whitest light output I would recommed 4300k bulbs...I have 6k and love them, but they def have a blue hue...stock temp is 4300k so that is prolly the best given your requirements.

Re: HID options

^^^

Very true. As long as you stay between 4300K - 6000K you'll be fine.

Yes. Find a pair of projectors that you like, like those of the Gen III's and then you have to make sure you buy from a reputable HID seller. A lot of users prefer Xenon Depot for their kits.

One of the most important aspects with any setup is a wire harness/relay. These bolt on to the battery terminals and ensure a direct connection and it provides a benefit of safety for your electrical system as it can't handle the initial amount of electricity.

Both are good kits but you could go with the Volt to save on costs since this is your first time. The Volt is $95 compared to the Xtreme at $160.
