Heres the specs on the XD xtreme kit-all kits are made in Japan for XD only

wheres the xentecs specs? They dont have any because they buy all different kinds of ballasts, bulbs etc.

Most of that is feature-set, not a difference in quality (emi filter, phillips glass, digital, relay; another can be bought).

And Tony says they're water proof...? Are they not? Did you have the slim ballast or the regular ballast?

The slim ones I have seem to be built like tanks!

What are the differences between digital and non-digital?

I'm not trying to start a bash, lol, just wanted to know the difference.

now-from my experience the XD kit was high quality. The ballast case was thick and heavy, rubber injected. All connections had water protection and was high quality wire. The bulbs were also more substantial and have phillips anti-uv quartz glass. All componets looked to be oem quality

The xentecs were light and thin housings on the ballasts. The back of the ballast case was very thin aluminum. So thin I could push it in. connections did not look water tight or substantial at all. The bulbs just looked cheap....sorry. I bought the kit new and after opening the box....never installed them. Relay was same wire with no water protection and one relay for two headlights.

theres an argument for both sides...but untill youve had both in your hands......its one sided for you. I have no reason to push the XD products. I dont work for them, own stock in the company or even know the owner personally. Ive never spoken to Steve personally. But if someone asks which is better...Im gonna give my opinion based on the facts that I know.

Also has anyone compared the two side by side...do you know for a fact they look the same and have the same output? I know a few members had different color output on the same vehicle from Xentec kits on fogs and headlights. One side was a different color from the other.
heres the specs from XD---

Patented digital ballasts for precise color illumination * Japanese quality and craftsmanship * CE,UL & E4 certified OEM grade Xenon HID components * Rubber Injected waterproof/shockproof ballasts * Laser aligned bulbs to ensure optically correct beam patterns * Unique dual relay harness design * Full replacement warranty * ROHS, CE,UL & E4 certified OEM grade Xenon HID components * Double tubed Philips Quartz Anti-UV bulbs

The xtremes are not slim....the Volt kit is slim. The price for JG is $159 and $99 for the XD Xtreme and the Volt.

two relays means if one relay goes bad...both headlamps dont go out. Or if one fuse goes bad...you still have one lamp to get ya home.

digital vs non-digital-come on Matt. I used the TV as an example.......

dual layer laser aligned, anti uv coated phillips glass vs who knows on the xentecs

like I said before....XD Xtremes are made for XD and XD only. I have no idea on the xentecs...but I have seen tony mention they had different makers of the componets from time to time and have changed vendors. Most recently the slim ballasts. One worked bad when he tried them so they found another supplier. Would you buy a Jeep if one month it was made by Chevy and the next month Kia?

Man, I miss some of the greatest threads on here!!

So, I will say a few things, because by all means I do not want this to turn in to a bash session. Xenon Depot sells a phenominal product, hands down nothing to balk at.

Are the Xentecs a little more economical, yes they are.

I will say that I will stand behind them being 100% waterproof, included all harnesses. I can testify to that because my Hella Rallye 4000s on my off road vehicle have been mounted on my bumper for four years, and never once had an issues (Including not only heavy off road use, but plenty of water, and water crossings).

Have I had issues with some of the kits, yes, but as Scott mentioned, I will back it up as much as I absolutely need to to make my cutomers happy.

Do they EMI Filters, yes they do, but several have had radio interference, and I never denied that.

Now, with all that said, I commend Scott, because the reality is, there are several different kinds of clients....... take tires for example, not everyone runs a BFGoodrich or a Continental tire, some will say, I need this size, give me the best deal and maybe end up with a Nexxen, Nitto, or Hankook. Others will say, I need/want a BFGoodrich, because they have the best out there, and I refuse anything less. This includes paying a premium. The Nitto, Hankook and Nexxen may work good enough, or excellent, but for peace of mind, some people want nothing less than the BFG, or the continental. It is just a different type of clientel.

Now, that being said, I am pleased to announce that at Baja HID, we are working on partnering with a few different vendors, to bring either a Phillips conversion, or a McCuloch conversion soon.

Tony....Im not sugar coating this....You are one of the best vendors on the net! I really believe that. Your warranty is unmatched!

ok...I know he had a JG special recently for $159. probably ended. Thanks for the clarification. Now get those oem HID's in bro!

So can one of you well informed HID peeps elaborate on what a 'digital' ballast is and what a non-digital ballast is??

I can see a difference between a digital and analog television, but we aren't discussing TV's, and I cannot tell the difference between a digital and non-digital HID light ballast. What exactly does it mean to the customer??

I'm starting to think that this may be a case of a company just using fancy words to vividly describe a product and attract the less informed, but I withhold judgment until I get some sort of clarification.

I found this on a quick Bing search

A digital HID (DHID) lamp ballast is an electronic ballast that uses a microprocessor to control and regulate a High-Intensity Discharge (HID) lamp. The firmware can provide control algorithms to supply varying lamp currents during start-up and during lamp operation. The firmware controls the initial voltage strike to the bulb to start it and then controls current in the bulb for the most efficient burning of the lamp.[citation needed]

The main benfits of the Digital HID ballast are: saving of electrical energy and maintenance costs over magnetic ballast HID lamps; automatic loss-of-lumen compensation as the lamp ages; produces up to 40% more lumens per watt than magnetic ballasts; increased life expectancy of the lamp compared to magnetic ballast; DHID ballast generates less heat, reducing air conditioning energy cost; 50% dimming of incoming power produces additional cost savings, with automatically controlled lamp dimming in unoccupied areas.[citation needed]

DHID ballasts can be used to upgrade existing lamp installations. In a retrofit, the DHID ballast can replace the existing magnetic ballast. The rest of the fixture is reused, and the magnetic ballast can be recycled.[citation needed]

I personally prefer Xenon Depot (Volt 6000K kit), but I have nothing bad to say about Baja HID since I never used them. You can get the projector housings on ebay. Go to ebay motors, then click parts & accessories. Put your make, model, yeat and then click search. From there click on lighting, lamps & accessories on the left and then click headlights. From there you will have a whole bunch of headlights to chose from.

They are, the lows have very good light output, the highs are okay. The housing themselves look great (I could personally do without the LEDs). Now I don't know If I was too rough with them but my projectors have small hairline cracks where it joins to the housing and it pisses me off (they fog up). The quality of the lenses itself it crap. It noticeably thinner than the OEMs, which pretty much means they are fragile. I put some silicone on mine but I guess I missed a spot and there another hairline crack there. Personally if I bought then again I'd put a layer of clear silicone around the seams.

ok so i can honestly say i have a nice 220 dollar set of HID in 6k color. im sorry i do not remember the nam eof the ballast i have had them over 3 years they where in my 95 avenger until it was wrecked then i transfered them over to my jeep. and i alos own a set of the cheap i think i paid 60 a pair HID's of ebay they are not the xentecs or whatever the name. now here is wha ti notice with them

220.00 hid's been through two ballast and one set of bulbs they are really nice and bright at all times allways come on just had those few problems and, they are phillips bulbs by the way.

the cheapos from the bay had absolutley no problems with them at all not a one even after the totaling of my avenger, they with stood.. they all with stood the wreck but i havent had a problem with them at all.

Just another "imo statement" just to show anything can go wrong with a product an some cheapos are actually pretty good. i have been trying to find the ones i bought on the bay havent had any luck, gunna try my ebay histroy if it goes that far.
