MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)

Hey guys,
this light on my gauge cluster showed up tonight just now.

It's yellow. Kinda shaped like a motor?

I guess it means I need to get my Engine checked soon?
What do I do, and what does it really mean?

I plan on getting me a 2006 Black WK Limited here soon.
But just wondering on this 1999 WJ Laredo, with 161,680 Miles on it.

Ugh, I'm ready to get rid of this POS.

Re: MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)

Jesus who did you buy this truck from . Seems like there wasn't much maintenance being done. I know which light your talking about and it is involved with the motor. Not sure what it could be, could our truck start, did it run normal idling?

Re: MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)

Well Like I've mentioned on the forums on here,
theres bad idle, and RPM wont stay still and sometimes drops real quick when i'm at a stop light. Something is wrong. I guess it finally warned me on the gauge cluster. IDK.

This jeep pisses me off and I hope I get this 2006 HEMI Jeep. hehe.

Re: MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)

my advice is to get it checked by the dealer? under warranty? not sure bout the wj but if that MIL light is blinking, its a bad sign lol. if it's just on, just get it checked. 1 check engine light in 161k? lucky sob. lol. mine pop 2x wit 5k miles

I didn't even replace my throttle body

Anyway I called my mechanic and he told me to disconnect the battery for a minute and connect it back and then start. Now theres no light but I have a feeling that was just a temp solution. Anyway, no lights are fine with me just as long as my truck runs.

Re: MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)

Just another update, I might have to change the indicator bulb since at start up, it doesnt show up for normal three seconds and shuts off quite fast. Also, if the car is on the on position (but not cranked) the light normally stays on the whole time in its positon, instead it goes solid and then it flashes 3 times and turns off.
