You just have to find the right size, I had to go back three times before I got the right one that fit in snuggly.....

And thats just double sided tape like Mott said....

Re: roof rack delete

I also removed my roof rack this weekend. I sell push pins where i work so that was no issue, the "empty spot" with the double sided adhesive i plan on removing it then taping off the rest of the roof and spraying the rain channels flat black to match the black roof strips. I dont think youll notice somethings "missing" unless you get up real close to it.

Re: roof rack delete

Basically pry off the plastic covers at the front at rear of the bars. You'll find a few Torq bolts, remove these (front, mid and rear) and the rails will lift off.

To remove the part at the front just pry it out, it is tucked under the windshield trim which makes it slightly tricky.

Just to add a bit of info regarding the holes... As soon as I removed the rails I covered the holes with masking tape, just to be safe although it only lasted a few days before needing redone.

Anyways, I was changing out some CDs in the CD changer and noticed the plastic trim at the top of the trunk was a little wet. I pulled it off and looked up, I could see the sky through the hole where the torq screw for the roof rail goes.

I immediately filled all of them with clear silicone, looking to get some proper caps color coded and fitted next spring which will look nicer. So if you haven't covered/sealed those holes with something water will get in.

Re: roof rack delete

No worries. I used masking tape for months, worked fine although it had to be reapplied fairly often. Great temporary solution though.

Re: roof rack delete

After reading this thread i removed mine.. MYGOD lucky i did..

On one side the middle mount wasn't actually fixed, I couldn't unscrew it. I did get it off after removing all the other mounts/screws.. 90% were rusted nearly thru..

The middle mount.. God dam, the threaded section had be pulled right out of the body, Not sealing floating around. This does explain the moisture build up on my amps under the rear seats i got regularly.

I filled all the holes with a black silicon. Which i will trim it off....

Re: roof rack delete

I hate to resurrect an ancient thread, but while searching for my problem, I found this.
I want to KEEP my roof rails, but I have a leak when raining or washing, etc.
It is from the roof rail nut-serts. I have confirmed this many time.
I have tried to fix this to no avail. I am still getting a leak down my a-pillar. If those of you that have not filled your nut-sert openings are not getting a leak, where is it draining if not into the cabin?
I am to the point of pulling hair trying to cure this leak.
