That's just the thing Hector. You don't have to anything! You can leave the holes just the way they are, because they don't go all the way through the roof. If you're skeptical, you can fill them with the clear silicone, and paint the metal parts to match.
The front I wouldn't worry about to much. Its just an additional water channel that takes water away from the roof now...lol!
I thought so I remember reading somewhere I didn't have to do any thing. Thanks for clearing that up for me hannes
Thats a good idea Mon thanks
One more thing I took it off just to paint it but now I'm having thoughts of leaving it off. What do you guys think I should do?
I'll try to post some pictures if my pc works but it turn off on its own last night and just won't turn on anymore. Anyways... How can I put up a poll to leave the roof rack on or off?
nope It just gets in the way of cleaning up there lol but I'm still confused on the look and all my family likes it on better. I think they're just use to seeing it.
One question. Since removing it I hear wind noise on the top... Any ideas why I'm hearing that now?
Yeah...it take some time getting use to it. But its well worth it! Umm....not sure about the wind noise. There should be less wind noise if anything because its just roof now!
I also removed my roof rack this weekend. I sell push pins where i work so that was no issue, the "empty spot" with the double sided adhesive i plan on removing it then taping off the rest of the roof and spraying the rain channels flat black to match the black roof strips. I dont think youll notice somethings "missing" unless you get up real close to it.
Basically pry off the plastic covers at the front at rear of the bars. You'll find a few Torq bolts, remove these (front, mid and rear) and the rails will lift off.
To remove the part at the front just pry it out, it is tucked under the windshield trim which makes it slightly tricky.
Just to add a bit of info regarding the holes... As soon as I removed the rails I covered the holes with masking tape, just to be safe although it only lasted a few days before needing redone.
Anyways, I was changing out some CDs in the CD changer and noticed the plastic trim at the top of the trunk was a little wet. I pulled it off and looked up, I could see the sky through the hole where the torq screw for the roof rail goes.
I immediately filled all of them with clear silicone, looking to get some proper caps color coded and fitted next spring which will look nicer. So if you haven't covered/sealed those holes with something water will get in.
After reading this thread i removed mine.. MYGOD lucky i did..
On one side the middle mount wasn't actually fixed, I couldn't unscrew it. I did get it off after removing all the other mounts/screws.. 90% were rusted nearly thru..
The middle mount.. God dam, the threaded section had be pulled right out of the body, Not sealing floating around. This does explain the moisture build up on my amps under the rear seats i got regularly.
I filled all the holes with a black silicon. Which i will trim it off....
Any of you guys wanna sell your cross bars,I have your basic roof mount but no cross bars,I wanna put a rola rack or maybe another brand up but alot of these baskets mount to cross bars and not to factory rack mount,if you have one to fit an 03 laredo and dont want an arm and leg for give me a shout, jeep dealer wants WAY too much for them, may have to search junk yards.
I hate to resurrect an ancient thread, but while searching for my problem, I found this.
I want to KEEP my roof rails, but I have a leak when raining or washing, etc.
It is from the roof rail nut-serts. I have confirmed this many time.
I have tried to fix this to no avail. I am still getting a leak down my a-pillar. If those of you that have not filled your nut-sert openings are not getting a leak, where is it draining if not into the cabin?
I am to the point of pulling hair trying to cure this leak.

i havent plugged mine yet - i hope they dont leak... they say it doesnt but i wouldnt know. have you tried taking roof rack off and squirting clear silicone in and around bolt-zert and putting teflon on bolts? otherwise i see some have said it drains with sun roof? I thought most cars had drain tubes running from sun roof to bottom of car, but this may be different. if it is, maybe your drain passages are clogged?
If the right rear 1/4 window isn't leaking, you may have to pull your headliner and check the sunroof drains, one sounds liek it may have come disconnected. There are four drains in the sunroof, one on each corner, the front two go in the "A" pillars, and the rear two go to the "C" Pillars and near the rear wheel wells if I remember correctly.
the most logical thing to do (althought not fun)
you may have to remove your head liner (not that hard really - just will take a half day) and pour water on top to pin point.
