Re: Shorty Antenna for my 01 Limited WJ

It's a popular mod...especially if you're after a "cleaner" look. From what little research I did, if the length is reduced by a certain amount, you don't lose as much reception as you think you would. As far as real world proof...well...I live near the Cleveland area and drive into the "city" and out into the sticks. Both extremes are close to me. I've noticed no difference in reception whatsoever...but I'm sure for those in rural areas, it's not the best idea. Nice thing is, if you don't like it, you put the old one back on. It's a cheap change to try.

All you gotta do is unscrew it brotha...that's all there is to it. Some of them are on there pretty good if you've never had it off before. People would unscrew them all the time before going into the old "Scratch-o-Matic". The mere mention of those carwashes make me vomit a little in my mouth...

Please do, I ordered once from eBay but the screws that came with it did not sit properly with the antenna base, it was either to thick or the screw pattern was wrong. Hoping yours will be plug n play......

Re: Shorty Antenna for my 01 Limited WJ

Well got the unit today, I started threading it in and went to give it one turn with a wrench and the damn threads broke off in the hole for the antenna!

So now, I have to go extract the threaded part of the piece that adapts the antenna to the hole before I can continue on with this mod.

I am so pi$$ed!

What he said. It really depends on where you live and local radio stations strength. I live in a moderate size city but have to drive 35 miles into the middle of NOWHERE for work. There's a certain section (almost at work) where I always lose my local station w/ the stock radio. With the short antenna, I lose the station about 15 miles earlier. To me, that's a fairly significant distance. But if you're going to be in or around the city, you won't notice a difference.

Re: Shorty Antenna for my 01 Limited WJ

I don't know why, but on the European WJ's the antenna is embedded in the right most aft window pane and has an amplifier with it. Works very well and keeps the Jeep clean.

Dude...that sucks! Mine got a good 1/4 turn beyond what I could do with my hands and I had no issues.

So the antenna is still useable then right? You just need a new insert piece?

Sorry to hear that man..... One question thou, did you have to force screw it or did the thread match perfectly? If it did, can you tell me where you bought it.

I wish they would do that on the US models. I also wish they'd heat the windshield to melt ice better.

Re: Shorty Antenna for my 01 Limited WJ

Well I was able to fix the problem. I center punched the broken off piece and used a left handed drill bit to reverse out the broken off piece.
