Spyder projectors

Hello everyone im new to this forum! I got a 2002 WJ with a 4.7 with some slight mods but big plans for the future. Right now I got the spyder projector headlights but I have been having problems with the LED's on the sides of the headlights, all of them are out and wont work. Ive replaced the LED's and they stay on for a short period of time then just go out and I cant get them back on without playing around with the LED bulb. I was wondering If anyone has had this problem with these headlights before or if they have any clue what it could possibly be, thanks in advance!

Re: Spyder projectors

@wjgiants39: That's weird that they keep going out. I think a lot of owner's with that style projector leave the 3 LED's on the side off or they cut the wires. Do you have the LED halo version or the CCFL?

I don't know man, the 3 LED's don't add much to the overall look as much as the Halo's do. Maybe the sockets are damaged where the 3 LED's are plugged into.

Re: Spyder projectors

The sockets for those LEDS are a simple, rubber push-in type bulb holder. I'd remove each one, and make sure the metal tabs that actually contact the bulbs are making good contact. After that, hunt down damaged wires. The leads are soft and can break internally. When that happens you can have intermittent contact. Sounds to me like the bulbs aren't seating right. Other than that, if you've got good ground, and polarity right, there really can't be anything else wrong.

Re: Spyder projectors

It looks like you got the same set up as I do. I've never had a problem with mine. I have my LEDs and Halos on a toggle. I did however have an issue with my fog light halos, I replaced those with white 12V Alpena Hyper LEDs from Advanced Auto (4 pack) Part #78215. I don't know how bright they'd be being used as regular LEDs though. You may have too much juice running to them causing them to malfunction.

Re: Spyder projectors

When and if you get your power problem rectified one of these will surely do an excellent job in place of those stock LED's.

Direct Forward Light: This one has an output of 105 lumens.

More ambient light (360 degree coverage, no lumen output stated):

Re: Spyder projectors

I'm running the 105 lumen direct forward light bulbs from V-LED...they don't quite fit perfectly, but if you line them up and fight with them enough, they stay in place. The metal housing is slightly larger than the moulded hole in the headlight assembly.

Re: Spyder projectors

Its been pretty cold here in NY and Ive just pinted my Rims so I only had a little bit of time to really look at the lights some more but so far I belive its what tjxjwj said with there not being good contact between the bulb and housing
