Are the 55w ballast brighter?

This is what DDM Says:

What is the difference between 55w and 35w kits?
Our 55w HID kits are 40% brighter than the standard 35w kits.
The 55W system ballasts are about 1 cm longer than the 35W ballasts.
55w kits tend to wash out some of the color of the HID bulb due to the light output( for example, a 55w 8000k will look similar in color to a 35w 6000k kit).
Our 55w HID Kit is not recommended for smaller fog light housings because they tend to concentrate a large amount of heat in a small area.

This is what XenonDepot (As you know a vendor on here) says:

35W vs 55W HID Kits

XenonDepot only sells 35W HID conversion kits for several reasons. 55W HID conversion kits do produce slightly more light (approximately 15%-20%) than a 35W HID Kit. This increased light output usually results in a less even light spread and additional glare. 55W ballasts are not as efficient as 35W ballasts that we sell meaning that 55W ballast longevity will be compromised. Many merchants that sell 55W HID claim that 55W is a superior technology. However, there is a reason that all cars that come with HID lights from the factory still use 35W technology and not 55W technology. These 55W HID kits often overdrive the 35W HID bulb to obtain the increased light output. As a result, you can expect the HID bulb to burn hotter which can damage your headlight. You can also expect a significantly decreased bulb life.

Re: Those with 55w HID's, Do you have to use a relay?

Thanks. I did read that before though. I'll never use 55w ballast do to increased heat. Just like lightbulbs in your house. I just wanted to know if they are brighter.

I guess it doesn't matter because they are both bright enough.

I suppose, I'm curious as to how the 35w kits are. My first kit was a 55w

could have been, it looked like it was a cheaper set anyway, still using the replacement set i bought right after that one failed and now its on the srt so maybe about 3 years old, workin like a champ still although one of the bulbs is starting to go blue-er than i like, time for some 4300k's i guess.. im sure the illuminated entry is a killer on the the hids tho, might turn it off..

WK is awesome, still trying to get used to some things, mostly the the crazy ass speed of the thing lol.. was getting on the freeway the other day, normal as ever not even trying to go fast but was going past everyone thinking i was going 80 i look down and im at 130!! still poking around everyday lookin for goodies, trying to find cool stuff and theres modules and boxes with wires everywhere! found the cool sneaky cubby holes in the back last week

Re: Those with 55w HID's, Do you have to use a relay?

55W ballasts draw more power upon start up so I would not suggest not using a relay harness.

Also, DDM uses 35W bulbs with all their kits so you are overdriving them with 55W ballasts. The bulbs are burning at significantly hotter temperatures.

Yeah, I hear everyone say that, but since they say:

"All of our bulbs are rated up to 60 watts. If ordered a 55w HI/LO kit you may noticed the bulbs have a 35w sticker on them. Do not be alarmed as these bulbs are rated up to 60 watts. The ballast are what controls the output, so as long as you received 55w ballast you will have a 55w kit."

I take it this is just a marketing gimmick/lie then? Anyways I got my set-up to work again and I've always got the relay with the 55w so I'm good.

I think I'm going to downgrade to a 35w kit here pretty soon, But the next kit I get will most likely be from XenonDepot
