I have heard good things about Monroe but chose Bilstein for my WJ. Bilstein shocks are the shock of choice in the stock suspension WJ world.

Sorta depends on what year your vehicle is.

Rancho is made by Monroe, where you can often find them on sale where you buy 3 and get the 4th free. Rancho adjustables are good.

Edelbrock IAS are also good if available. Same sale tends to be available at 4wheel parts stores....

Re: OEM shocks upcountry suspension?

what is Upcountry suspension???

i was looking at the monroe reflex shocks and saw that they would fit my laredo and then said "w/ upcountry supension."

then i looked at the monroe sensa track and said the same but this time "W/O upcountry suspension"

UpCountry suspension was an option that have additional lift and consisted of taller coil springs. IIRC they gave about 1" more on a new vehicle. I have read that swapping in the UC coils and new isolators easily gains 1.5" over the worn ride height. UC suspension was standard on the 2002-2003 Overlands and discontinued in the fall of 2003. You can read up here ---> Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ - Overland edition

Shown above in Silverstone Metallic, the Overland was introduced in August of 2001 as the premiere Grand Cherokee in the model line-up. The 2002-2003 Overland models included all of the standard Limited features plus the following:
High Output 4.7L V8 engine 265hp
Leather/suede combination heated seats
Overland badging (exterior of front doors and floor mats)
Exclusive rock rails
Rain Sense wipers
Side curtain air bags (can be deleted for credit)
Special 17. x 7.5 wheels, standard:
Cast Aluminum Hammerhead (2002)
Rogue Cast Aluminum (2003)
Tires - P235/65R-17 Wrangler SR-A all-terrain OWL tires
Up Country Suspension package (deletable option starting spring 2002)
Skid Plate Group (3 plates plus chrome tow hooks)
Woodgrain (real redwood) for upper half steering wheel and interior accents
Options:

Adjustable Pedals
Chrome wheels (standard in 2004)
Engine block heater
Navigation radio RB1
Roof cross rails
Tire Pressure Monitor System
Trailer tow package class IV

Changes for 2004:

New front bumper fascia and grille design
Fog lamps, new round style
Newly designed two-tone leather-trimmed seats with larger seatback bolsters, more supportive seat cushions, new seat fabrics. Dark Slate Gray with Light Slate Gray leather inserts on the seatback and seat bottom.
Chrome insert added to bodyside cladding
Chrome wheels now standard (real chrome, same as offered in 2001-2003)
Up Country Suspension package discontinued starting September 2003
Now offered in a 2WD version
Midnight Blue Pearl Coat exterior color added (a total of six exterior color choices are available for 2004 Overlands)

quick update guys i decided to go with the monroe sensatrack since the monroe reflex were not available at the time.
Got them at advance auto parts for $90 a pair rear shocks, was browsing online and found a coupon on for $40 off so i ended up paying around $55 so i cant complain.

Shocks feel great they feel a bit more stable and stiff compared to the old ones and definitely a great improvement if you're looking for that stock feel.

the only bad thing about buying rancho shocks would be that simply because its called "rancho" and rancho being known for making shocks for off roading they are a bit more expensive witch would defeat the whole saving a couple bucks idea. so if rancho is made by monroe we know quality is good and i dont plan on off roading then monroes shocks would be a best choice
