02' Overland - want some beefier tires...

Hi Folks.

I'm lovin' my "new" 02' Overland. Just a great rig. The 235/65/17s are nice, but, I've always enjoyed putting on a beefier tires to fill out the wheel well... Any guidance on just how wide/big/fat a tire I can put in there and still handle well?

Thanks.

Hi,

not much bigger, but I had a set of 255/60/17's put on yesterday, almost identical overall diameter but look much more purposeful / better in my opinion and has improved my confidence in the handling no end, but that could just be down to having a decent matched set rather than different tyres all round with varying degrees of wear....

Cheers,

Neil

Re: 02' Overland - want some beefier tires...

255/60/17 will give you a wider contact patch and section width than stock, thats about it.

A 245/65/17 will give you a wider contact patch than stock (not as wide as 255/60/17) but it will also give you more sidewall and more overall diameter while still being with in spec so you don't throw off your speedo.

If you want a wider contact patch with the OEM sidewall and OD look go with the 255/60's.

If you want a beefier looking tire, little wider, taller, more cushion on the sidewall go with the 245/65s. Thats what I did.

255/60/17 would be my pick. I had those on some 06 Overland wheels on my 02 Overland, and they looked great, and did their job.

Re: 02' Overland - want some beefier tires...

Thanks dreamer1213. I'm going to make it through the winter on my stock 235/65s and then get the 255/60s on in the spring. Did you do blackwalls or raised white letters? Also, what make did you have - it's been a while since I bought "beefy" tires; I always used to get BF Goodrich ...liked how they looked! Thanks.
