I have my 1999 WJ Laredo. Black. I will be purchasing the 4" Zone Offroad lift for it, as the track bar bushings and shock bushing is worn out one one shock (lift comes with shocks and track bar) so... my question is... what wheel and tire combo should i use? i currently have those sh!tty snowflake looking factory wheels, and HAVE to upgrade as i hate them so much. i have 245/75/16 tires, i believe on factory suspension.
im not exactly sure how big i can go with the 4" lift, but i was planning on 265/75/16's, because id like to keep some MPG. as for the wheels, i was going to go with 4" backspace, and 16" wheels. just... im lost on which ones...
my thoughts: (feel free to add you own also)
1: Dick Cepek DC-2 (polished aluminum/black)
2: Cragar Soft 8's (black)
3: Eagle Alloys 185 (black)
also, i will be purchasing from Summit Racing. (wanna get my employee discount!)
Just a suggestion but you could also find a set of jk wrangler take offs from a rubicon or Sahara... If you look long enough on Craigslist you can find a great deal like I did... Cheaper and easier than buying brand new wheels and tires you hope fit and messing around with back spacing...
-I have the Saharas on my Jeep and love them, but the sport/rubicon ones I like also... Just got too good of a deal on these to hold out for the rubicons..
Brandon keep in mind with 4" of backspacing you're gonna be a good bit out past your fender lips and if you're planning on doing some wheeling you might have the possibility of hitting the lip. The pic below is of my 5.5" backspaced wheel with a 30mm offset. The tires are about 10"wide and you can see I'm about even. You are going to be moving out over an inch depending on offset plus a wider tire. I would get a more conservative offset and see where you're at. You can always move it out with a set of spacers. At the very least make sure you extend your bump stops a couple of inches.
i was considering take offs, but i wasnt sure it the 265's would fit well on those and not rub with only 4" of lift.
I plan on doing just a little wheeling, but nothing too bad that i need a lot of flex. I know what you're saying and i agree, but at the same time im torn because i like the wheels pushed out past the fenders.
im rather unsure of what i wanted to do. so i thought i would see what responses i get
No problem bud. You'll be fine on the street and even some mild wheeling with your setup. Just dont want to see you ruin a tire or fender if you get into some serious flex the Zone kit is capable of.
Well with those shafts you're more likely to get a vibe than not and that's where it will be at highway speeds. Hopefully you'll get lucky with the t-case drop that comes with the kit but I would start gathering parts for the conversion. 4" is asking a lot from a cv shaft.
sorry, i just noticed your post. theres got to be a better way to keep track of my posts, instead of going to statistics, find all posts, and scrolling...
anyways, winter is over, and i didnt need 4x4, so i didnt replace it. winter wasnt too bad this year. since i didnt need to spend the money to fix it, i decided to get a conversion kit. either Rustys Offroad, or the Tom Woods. any preference to one or the other?
