Akebono upgrade? Conversion

What are you guys roughly paying for a front Akebono conversion. (calipers/rotors/ pads). Thinking about changing it all over. Did you guys buy all new or used and if so can't remember what year they started going to these.

Thank You, Shawn Lane

Check out R1 concepts. That's where i ordered my Akebono calipers from and they have great quality parts. I honestly cant remember what i paid for them but its worth it.

Re: Akebono upgrade? Conversion

Got some akebono calipers finally! Can't wait to install them maybe tonight or tomorrow. New calipers/hardware/pads/ and kit includes mounting brackets, you can use your same rotors if you have the Teves/Contiental/ATE. Got these from justforjeeps.com. $215 shipped to my place! Looking forward to not hearing lots of clunking noises!

Re: Akebono upgrade? Conversion

So this is the right opportunity to bleed all old fluid out and put new fresh in, also for the rear brakes. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, ie it will attact moisture from the air. This moisture over time will form water bubbles and these will start boiling on hot days/hard braking, causing spongy brakes and less/or no braking force.
A two year change interval is a safe one for this problem not to occur.

Re: Akebono upgrade? Conversion

Oh yes, Going to do a full bleed on the Jeep I planned on just doing the 4 calipers but do you mess with the ABS lines at all???? The fluid is disgusting in the resivor. I would like to get some new stainless braided lines to finish it off. But that will be a little later. The lines look more of a pain in the ass to do than the calipers and bleed.

Re: Akebono upgrade? Conversion

Wow these calipers and new pads are wonderful. Before I thought my wheels where going to fall off from all the shaking. THIS IS A MUST HAVE UPGRADE FOR THOSE WHO DON'T have them. Probably took me an hr tops to get everything changed and system bled.

Re: Akebono upgrade? Conversion

Shawn,

I too need to fix/upgrade the brakes on my 2000WJ. I think I've warped my rotors at least seven times and now they're completely shot.

I understand you went the Akebono route. What did you do about your rotors ?

Thanks in advance for your time.

I am also thinking about this upgrade, but I dont have any braking problems and the Teves stop me just fine. The only issue I have is that the inside pad wears out and the outside pad is like new. Do you guys think it is worth doing the upgrade or not.

sounds like your caliper piston is not returning either the piston is rusted or pins are non moving

The teve's to akebono is a 100% instant return on performance and safety.

the Teve's are KNOWN to warp rotors and cause issues.

Akenbono's so much easier to do brake pads on also no huge ass spring to fight with

Plus it's all Bolt on.
