What are ya gonna do push it all winter An open diff always pulls both ends until one spins then all your power stays there. It will bind in fulltime and even worse in part time or low. Also remember you have to go through part time to get to 2wd or full time.Hey it's your case. Give it a whirl but I included a link you'll be needing eventually. http://www.transfercases.com/

all i am trying to say is if you can keep your jeep in 2wd you can run whatever size tires you would like on the front and the rear. putting it in 4wd is a different story and i wouldnt suggest it.

Why would it bind in 4 Full Time? I thought 4 Full Time was like an open differential and allowed the front and rear driveshafts to spin at different speeds? What am I missing?

For the record, my Jeep doesn't have the option to put it into 2WD. I can only do 4WD Hi and 4WD Lo.

They are talking about the select trac system which has 2wd.

I'm seriously confused as to why it will cause harm to the 242 TC in 4 Full Time. Do you know why?

i would think that the tcase would think that there would be slipping on one tire wiht the different size and cause it to lock the diff

Re: Can I mix tire types on a 4x4 Laredo if the tread left is similar?

for that, if you use different brands, at least on every axle should be the same.
Diameters always vary in a certain range, and there are often situations, where theres a slight difference in propshaft rotations (eg if you go turns) wich the diff should compensate (after all, thats what its made for and otherwise it wouldnt be there...).
The diff should lock only at major differences (or manually)

so, if diameter almost identical i wont care..(just my personal opinion!)

Good luck
Achim

To my knowledge (which may be wrong but cheapjeep won't answer my question to let me know if I'm right or wrong), with the 242 when in "4 Full Time" the tcase cannot lock the front and rear outputs. It's designed so that it can be driven on roads and not bind because it acts as an open differential (allows the front and rear driveshafts to rotate at different speeds).
