Re: Goodyear Wrangler SR-A or Something Better?

IMO the GY Wrangler SR-A isn't quite as bad as everyone says. Just put the 3rd set of them on the WJ last fall(Mine has 245/70-16 tires stock), and with 165k on it, I have to say that they lasted quite a while. They don't perform too bad in snow (I live in Wisconsin). That being said, I only got the latest set because my Goodyear store was able to get them pretty cheap (Around $110), and I really figured that I at least knew what I was getting into, knew they would last a while, and couldn't justify anything else for the price i got them at.

That being said, there are a lot of better tires available for the money, and I didn't even look at SR-A's for my WK. I ended up with Wrangler Silent Armors(I got them around $700 installed for 245/65/17), which have been good so far, but have only had them since august, so no snow yet. I have also heard good things about the General Grabber HTS if your looking for a non-A/T tire.

Re: Goodyear Wrangler SR-A or Something Better?

Thanks 4 all the responses. After wayyyyy too much thinking and searching...I decided to go with the General Grabber HTS.I got them installed today along with an alignment and boy what a difference. The drive to work on Monday will let me know if I made the right choice.I don't wanna post the price as I likely overpaid as I went to a local shop instead of buying them online.Past experience with getting things cheaper online has always eventually cost me more money in the long run.

I agree with the buying tires online, in the long run you are probably just as good buying at a store, and there is always somewhere to go back to. Hope you like the Grabber HTS, I've heard a lot of good things about them.

+1 on that! I love my Grabber A/T's. The HTS is supposed to be very good too and if you don't do much off-roading they are probably better for you. Enjoy them!.

You will like the Grabber HTS, I had a set of those put on my 2000 WJ after I got my 2004 Overland and the old Jeep went to my wife for a local daily driver. Since she was only using it for paved roads and the Jeep had over 250k miles I thought they were a good choice for the money.

They held up very well in the couple years and about 30k miles that she drove the Jeep before I sold it.
