Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me please (will General Grabber AT2 255/65/17 fit?

Hello,
I need new tyres and want to try and order some ASAP so I can have them fitted this coming Saturday.

I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee Limited 2.7 turbo diesel (European spec Jeep). It is has 17 rims fitted with 235/65/17 tyres.
I am struggling a bit to find a suitable tyre and I wonder if the General Grabber AT2 in 255/65/17 will fit onto a standard 2004 Grand Cherokee without rubbing or other issues?

I used the General Grabber AT2 on my Toyota for over 3 years so I know they are a good tyre.

Other possibilities are the Toyo Open Country AT 235/65/70
Thanks in advance for your help.

Paul

First off Welcome, Welcome!
If you already run 235/65/17's on your Jeep without rubbing, Im sure you can fit the 255/65/17's that you are shooting for. The first 3 numbers refers to how wide the tire is, the numbers you should be worried about are the middle one's, they refer to the Overall Diameter, but the 255/65/17's should fit without major rubbing. But again, only if the ones you have right now dont rub. I run 265/70/17's tires but I have a 4in lift...so not a very good reference point. With these tires they only rub if I turn them to the max.

Re: Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me please (will General Grabber AT2 255/65/17

Thanks for the advice

I have spoken to the technical dept of a major 4x4 tyre supplier this morning and he said that the 255/65/17 General Grabber was too big. (I heard the same from West Coast 4x4, that they would rub on the front valence). There are no Toyos available at the moment and it is not known when new stocks of Toyo Open Country 235/65/17 will arrive.

Several places have recommended the Kumho Road Venture AT KL78 as a good tyre for my needs.

Re: Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me please (will General Grabber AT2 255/65/17

here is a link to a wj that runs 275/45 20

How To: Install VLEDs Dual Color Turn Signals

now according to this http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp

stock wj = 235/65 17
width 9.25
height 29.02

275/45 20 from link
width = 10.82
height 29.74

255/65 17
width 10.03
height 30.05

so you will be fine on width, its the height that might get you.

do some more searching here. lots of wjs.
also once this side of the world wakes up more, youm ay get some exact help.

I have them on my '05 with no issues at all. I love these tires. Maybe you can trim a little if there's minor rubbing.

Thanks everyone

I have phoned around various places today and there is a real shortage of 17 tyres here in the UK at the moment. In the end I have ordered a set of Kumho 235/65/17 AT KL 78... they seem to get good reviews.

Re: Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me please (will General Grabber AT2 255/65/17

I am running the 255/65/17 but the Bridgestone Revos. Stock height. I had to trim the front bumper about an inch and a half and really modify the front inner fenderwell too. And, the fog light bulb of my 04 Overland wire plug was too close and got ripped out so I had to zip tie the plugs out of the way. I also am running 1" wheel spacers with the stock 17x7.5 rims. Not sure without the spacers if that will make it worse; it definitely would rub on the inner bolt in the back. Full flex would be a problem. However, you can do it. I am getting a 2" lift put on and it will be perfect.
