Re: new front rotors for wj 2000

I'd just go with Smooth Rotors. If you get Drilled/Slotted, Hannes(Dreamer1213) told me his squeal most of the time. Go with smooth rotors both front and rear.

I guess the best type Advanced AutoParts or AutoZone has. Get some good pads. Don't fall for them saying that one pad is more expensive because it has less brake dust....Not matter what your going to have brake dust.

I bought lifetime moog rotors, they were way heavier than oem. They were also 2x the price, but hey, you get what you pay for.

Also had a brake/tire shop guy tell me that he buys the cheap rotors and replaces them when he changes pads.

I'll always go w/the lifetime now that I've had them. No issues for 2yrs now.
(I've got an 03 WJ)

I also I have the same problem I have to deal with squeal and I have slotted rotors (they look nice but tend to squeal). I highly suggest going with smooth rotors. In terms of which brand R1 concepts is a pretty good brand. But there are many other good brands. Have you considered changing the front calipers? (I believe thats what causes the premature warpage).

Re: new front rotors for wj 2000

Another vote for smooth from me too. My current setup is R1 concepts premium slotted on the front and smooth on the rear with Hawk HPS pads. They tend to make a little noise when cold which is annoying at times but once they're warmed up its pretty silent.

All of mine were warped within 4 months, mainly because my callipers were sticking on which certainly didn't help. Never had any dust from those pads though which was great.

I'm going to replace mine all round with the Mopar rotors and pads and also get the late '02 front calliper upgrade since I'm sick with this warping issue.

I've owned two GC's already, one 2000 and I currently have a 2001. I've used both smooth and slotted on both Jeeps. I must say that the slotted are the way to go. They keep the rotors cooler which cuts down the possibility of warpage.(GC's eat front rotors for breakfast in general) They also seem to have less wear and tear on the pads. Currently I have Baer Decela slotted and drilled on the front and Powerslot slotted on the rear with Raybestos ceramic pads on both. I have no problems with squealing at all...just great stopping performance! I am anal when it comes to brakes, tires and lighting.

Re: new front rotors for wj 2000

you have the teves calipers which causes the warpage on the rotors, same issue with mine before I switched to the drilled and slotted....that was July 08 when I did it. No problems up to now. Unless you are going to upgrade with the Akebono calipers with the new smoth rotors, i'd suggest you go with the D&S rotors....

no, that's not true at all (at least from my experience). my jeep had stock rotors (factory replacements) and they worked great and never warped, even after having the throttle linkage stick 2 times in which I had to brake very hard to bring it to a safe location and speed.
