tekonsha primus iq electric brake controller

Hi folks .
I have a electric brake controller I want to install which is the tekonsha primus iq into my 2002 grand Cherokee . I have searched the forums here with no results and also othe websites which are a great help but can be misleading for example , Etrailer site says that my car has a plug that sits up near the brake pedal and to connect the wiring loom to that and the other end into the controller . the plug near the brake pedal doesn't seem to exist so now im am at a stand still with the install . Tekonsha says that they have a wiring adaptor to fit my car but if there is no plug or socket for the loom to plug into . Im am in Brisbane Australia and car has been converted to RH drive so wiring may be different to USA , I don't know . Can anyone advise me on this or has anyone installed a brake controller in their jeeps

Sadly the only year that had the harness was '01. No big deal though if you have the tow package because the important blue wire is run up from the rear to the driver side kick panel(US)close to the fuse box. Hopefully yours is the same on the other side. Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ - Trailer towing

Hey thanks for your reply cheepjeep. I appreciate it. I will look for this blue wire at the fuse box. I do have the tow package however otherwise i would not have bought the jeep as i did need alot more grunt to tow my caravan which is 1.7 ton. The blue wire will save me alot of dollars in labor. I have read on other posts that this wire cant handle current draw. Not sure about this. What are your thoughts on this.

Re: tekonsha primus iq electric brake controller

I have a Tekonsha P3 I installed this spring that I actually haven't used yet on a real trip but last year I used a different controller on a few camping trips with no issues that I know of at least. They could have sprung for a little heavier gauge wire since they took the time to run it though.I think you'll be alright as is unless you got some triple axle camper.

Today i looked for the blue wire near fuse box drivers side under dash and there it was. WHAT A RELIEF. So i decided to connect it all up as follows.
White. To neg battery terminal
Black to positive battery terminal
Blue to blue wire near fuse box
Red to stop light switch.

At the stop light switch there is a group of wires that are plugged into the loom. I had to test each one with a meter to see which one had power ( 12 v) only when the brake pedal was pressed. Thats how i found the right one being a white wire.

By the way, this blue wire was tagged and clearly marked. Electric brakes.

Don't forget the 30 amp self resetting breaker on the hot near the batt.
