Tires for wheels

I have a 2002 WJ Laredo (non 4x4). Stock tires are 225/75/16 on what I'm guessing is a 16x8 stock wheel.

I bought new wheels that are .5 wider. 16x8.5 and was wondering if I can fit the stock tires I already have on them. They still have alot of tread so I figured if I can fit them until they are done, I can get a better size later on.

Thanks!!
-Cody

225/75/16 Most of the tires in that size suggest a rim width of 6-7"

Putting that size of tire on an 8.5" rim would not be a good idea. You can easily check tire specs at tirerack.com
