"Vari-Lok" rear on a "Selec-Trac" and Axle Ratios

Hey guys, hows it goin. I was recently looking at the specs on WJJeeps.com - Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ 1999-2004 and noticed that there is an option for a "Vari-Lok" rear end and I was wandering if I had it or not. I have a 2001 WJ Laredo with a 4.0 and "Selec-Trac" T-Case. Is there a vin code or other info on the vehicle that will tell me if I have this option? The link to the page where I found this is Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ - Specifications and dimensions and it is under "Features, Options, and Package Groups" section. Another question I have is what is the stock axle ratio on a WJ I was reading and in the rear it is 3.55 with a 3.73 option but I have not found anything on the front gearing. I have a stock D30 rear and D35 front.

Thanks,
Evan

Re: "Vari-Lok" rear on a "Selec-Trac" and Axle Ratios

Welcome to the Jeepgarage...I had two 99's one a V8 and the other the inline 6 or 4.0L. To get the Vari-lock you have to have Quadra-Drive to get Quadra-Drive you had to have a V8. As far as Axle ratio whatever's in the rear has to be the same as the front so they turn the same speed. I would say you have 3.55's. You could have 3.73's but I believe it only came with the Upcountry in the 4.0L. See what the door jam says for tire size and match it to the web site to see if you have Upcountry as they at the 235....17's....Hope this helps.

Vari-Lok in the rear only was an option in the tow package, so not only for Quadra drive.
Not sure if the tow package with the rear Vari-Lok was an option for both 4.0 and 4.7L.
