Wheel opinions needed

So back in January I picked up a set of Ronin II wheels off CL for $100 for all 4. Yes, $100 for all, with the center caps. I have always. Wanted them and I personally haven't seen many around for sale. Now these wheels were CRUSTY, but for 1 Benjamin I decided to take a chance. They were oxidized, pitted, road rashed, and basically nasty. For the past month or so, I've been wire brushing and sanding my butt off! So I finally have 1 ready for finishing (all done by hand, and the other three are almost ready). So yesterday I put 2 costs of VHT primer. 4 coats of VHT glossy black, and 4 coats of VHT glossy clear... I want to paint the inside tub a different color. The first color that came to mind was a gunmetal gray. Then I thought maybe I want a different color inside? So does anybody have any opinions on the inside tub color? My jeep is all black so I wanted the black glossy wheels for the front, but I thought that painting the inside a different color would accent them a little more. Any thoughts??

Re: Wheel opinions needed

I like the gunmetal idea...or even a brighter silver/aluminum color. WORST case, if you don't like, it, you can always re-spray the inside. I've got polished aluminum SRT reps and painted the inside silver to make it easier to keep clean. I actually used a brush-on silver caliper paint instead of a spray. Post up pics when you're done! Are you doing the caps in a different color than the rest of the wheel? Maybe you color match the caps to the inside of the drum.

Re: Wheel opinions needed

I actually went with a (believe it or not) a bright blue. I am eventually going to do the calipers to match. I am also thinking of maybe some blue neon lighting underneath down the road. Here is a pic of how the wheels are coming out... Still working on them... Long job by hand LOL

You can see by the wheel in the background of one of the pics how much pitting and corrosion needed repair.

Re: Wheel opinions needed

Oh, and I'm not sure if I can pull it off, but if like to do the caps black with lettering blue. But we'll see, they may just end up black.

Re: Wheel opinions needed

Nice! Looks like the paint job turned out really well for you. I bet if you sprayed the caps black and used a brush to do the letters it would turn out for you. I considered something similar with mine, but I wasn't painting, I was carbon-fiber dipping the center caps and I didn't want to cover any of it up.

Black lug nuts?

Re: Wheel opinions needed

Yes... I bought some glossy black powder coated lug nuts... Should like good when done. When I have the wheels mounted I'm going to gave he use the existing, then after go back and touch up any scratches from the mounting and swap the lugs myself. I fear the impact wrench may chip them.

Re: Wheel opinions needed

I hear ya...I never have a garage install wheels. I always do that myself, with an old school torque wrench and a special socket that's lined to not damage the wheels or lugs. APT-7835 is the part number on summit racing's website. They work great, and are for a 1/2" ratchet.
Garages can install tires on my wheels...but not my wheels to my vehicle. Lucky for me, I have 2 sets of wheels and tires.
