Im wanting to paint my winter rims (stock 99 wj wheels). I want a glossy black finish. Anyone know of any good wheel paint? I know plastidip is like a matte finish.

Re: Wheel paint

I'm sure that there are good paints for wheels but I just looked into this as a modification for my daughter's Mustang and I settled on having a local shop powder coat them gloss black. I just dropped them off this morning in fact. Cost is $50/ wheel not including dismounting and re-mounting/ balancing the tires.

Re: Wheel paint

$50 a tire is a pretty good price. Ill have to look into powder coating them + dismount/remount and balancing.

Re: Wheel paint

They just sent me a text with a picture of the first one done. The job will take two days, she can drive the car with the wheels on for three weeks while they fully cure then I take them back to get them buffed to fully bring out the gloss.

Re: Wheel paint

I have used the Duplicolor productions on two different sets of wheels. On the first set I painted I sanded, primed and painted with the color coat and did not clear coat. I don't know how this handled time as I traded the vehicle (98 Cherokee Classic) shortly after all the work. The second set (B15 Sentra 6-spokes) I sanded the stock painted surfaces, applied the green self-etching primer, several coats of color, and two coats of clear. I think a third coat would have helped but I ran out of time to do it.
