How To Section

How about making a specific forum for how-to tutorials? have the how-to thread itself locked so it doesn't get sloppy, and then we can make a thread in there asking questions etc about the mod if the guide itself isn't so clear for some people? Just an idea, and not like the 'other' site, where in the how to section, people were always ASKING how to do shit! lol..

Re: How To Section

I prefer to have the How-To/tutorials in the specific sub-forum that it pertains to. For example, I plan on doing a "How to add a sub/amp to the factory stereo" tutorial and I think it would be easier for people who are interested in this to find the thread stickied in the Audio/electronics/lighting sub forum rather than a list of random how-to's. Or if Scott did a detailing how-to (hint hint ), I feel it should be located in the detailing section rather than a random how-to sub-forum. I never liked it on the "other" site and found it to be annoying; scrolling for a certain How-To to see if it's there isn't really efficient. Pretty much every forum I've been a part of does it the way I've explained and I have found it to be the best method of integrating how-to's and tutorials.

Anyways, just some food for thought.

Thanks Frankie! This has been the best way to do this that I've come across, so it just seems to make sense.

Re: How To Section

Damn outsmarted my Matt once again! That is a great idea, but then we should have a seperate forum for say, just audio and in car electronics, and then another for say.. exterior mods, interior mods, etc etc..

LOL, wans't my idea, just what I have seen on other forums over the years.

The tricky part, as you point out Chris, is dividing the forum up into sub-sections. Too many sub-sections and the forum becomes cluttered and difficult to navigate; too little sub-forums and there is too much dissimilar information grouped together. The idea is to find the right balance... my suggestion would be to browse other "established" vehicle forums and see what they've done (i.e. another SUV forum). If it's working for them, then it can work for us too. Then we can tailor the basic structure to our (JG's) specific needs.

Re: How To Section

I would if I had the time... school/social life are killing me right now, lol. It doesn't sound like it's going to get any better either... looking at a pretty time-consuming job when I graduate.
