Jeep 101

Ok, I'm new to Jeeps (GC 3.0 diesel, 2008) and have wandered in and around the various forum sections browsing for information BUT......

...is there a Jeep101 section for newbies? I'm utterly confused by the WK, WJ ZK etc notations and really could do with a better understanding of the BASICS of Jeeps and, for my particular model, an overview of it's technical spec over-and-above that provided by the handbook i.e. what mods are common, what are the most popular mods, best performance fixes, basic mechanical and (in particular) electrical arrangements.

Prior to the Jeep I had a 2011 Ford Ranger XLT but before I could get 'into' that in any depth the other-half (Mrs kellys_eye) managed to park it upside down in a ditch and wrote it off and before even THAT I had a Fiat van that I got to know inside out and offered loads of advice to other users on the Fiat forum.

I want to get to know the Jeep just as intimately and, with my background in electronics, I should be able to assist with electrical fault diagnosis in some depth.

I've always found the best way to learn is via the appropriate technical manuals/drawings but a good 101 is essential to grasp the overall feel for the vehicle. A 'Dummies Guide to Jeeps' if you will....

So, is there anywhere on the forum that has this - if not, would it be beneficial to others? If there is can someone point me to it!

I've downloaded 'some' technical information and an awaiting a reply regarding electrical drawings but anyone with any additional downloads or pointers to such would be very, very much appreciated.

Thank you all.

PS - one target I've set myself is to design a blackbox interface to the CAN bus and open up a much cheaper route to people to fine tune the electronic aspect of the vehicle - like a CHEAP Lockpick (sub $50)....

Re: Jeep 101

the "dummies guide to Jeeps" is this forum lol. Just do a search for you jeep and see what mods there are (You have a Grand Cherokee WK). a lot of people get a tuner, CAI and either lifts or lowering kits depending on if they do off-roading or street driving.

Good luck Dave
