07 patriot overheating

I can drive 07 Patriot about 1.5 hrs on thruway and then radiator overheats. I then can put heater on high and temp goes to normal and I can continue to drive ? Any help why would be GREATLY appreciated.

Can be a problem with the thermostat, If it doesn´t open enough, the engine temperature will go up. The heater core is not influenced by the thermostat and allways gets the full hot coolant through it, so if you take heat away at the heater core, the engine temperature will go down.
