2012 Jeep Patriot issue...

Hello everyone,
I am new to here and have a quick question. I just bought a 2012 Jeep Patriot in January. Does anyone have a Clicking noise in the engine area when you shut off your Jeep. I was told by the dealer that this is normal. and its was something cooling down. but to me this sound doesnt sound normal. should i get a second option???

thanks,
Nicki

In my experience any clicking sounds coming from a hot engine when it is not running are related to expanding/contracting metal and other parts in the engine compartment. This is normal. Just make sure the engine is not overheating.

Then you don't have anything to worry about!

By the way, most newer engines from all manufacturers do the clicking thing due to the different materials they use.

The 2.0L and 2.4L engines have a plastic intake manifold and valve cover. The block is high-pressure die-cast aluminum with dry iron liners, cast-aluminum cylinder heads, cast-aluminum ladder frame, forged steel crankshaft.

Enjoy your Patriot, I just purchased a 2013 and love it!!

My 2011 Patriot had that clicking noise too... definitely not hot parts expanding or contracting because the clicking is rapid and uniform... I believe the consensus on JeepPatriot.com was that the noises were from the relays.

Should I be worried about the noise. Is it hurting something? It does make it every time I shut the jeep off.
