Compass 2009 Air Conditioning

Hi guys.
The Air conditioning of my wife's Compass 2009 runs with compressor engaged all the time.
Is that normal?
My Grand Cherokee's A/C Compressor engaged and disengage every 30 seconds or so..
Any thought?
Thanks in advance

Re: Compass 2009 Air Conditioning

This doesn´t seem to be normal. As you observed on your GC, the compressor normally cycles on and off. Does it deliver cold air? I don´t know the compass AC system, but there most probably is a presssure switch in the system which should cause the cycling of the compressor.

Compass 2009 Air Conditioning

Thanks Frango100
Yes it delivers cold air but sounds (compressor) a little bit louder than usual (think so)

Re: Compass 2009 Air Conditioning

If the compressor doesn´t stop working, the pressure it delivers most probably will become too high, causing it to work harder and wear sooner (and making more then normal noise), besides the fact that secondary damage can occur to seals or other weakest components due to the higher then normal pressure.
To be sure that the compressor clutch is not sticking, i would remove the connector from the wiring to the compressor clutch and see if the compressor is not working. If the clutch is sticking, it probably be time for a new clutch. If it doesn´t stick, my bed would be on the high pressure switch.

Compass 2009 Air Conditioning

What I did was to manually activate and deactivate it thorough the switch A/C located on dash board, and clearly you can see that it engage and disengage.
So in this case do you think it could be the pressure switch ?
Where is it located?
Thanks in advance FRANGO100!!!
Cheers

Re: Compass 2009 Air Conditioning

It should be sitting in the upper line close to the condenser. It seems to have a pressure transducer instead of a pressure switch.
