Advice On New Speakers/Amp?

I am thinking of upgrading to some better speakers for my GC. Does anybody have any recommendations? My GC has the Infinity sound system, with the amp under the rear seat. Would I need to upgrade to a better amp if I wanted new speakers? Also, would I need to get a new head unit?

Sorry for the noob questions, but I don't really know a whole lot about car audio.

So if I get a new head unit, can I hook up the steering wheel controls (tuner and volume) and the disc changer in the back to work with it?

Re: Advice On New Speakers/Amp?

You can use the steering wheel controls with a lot of better head units with an adapter but you're most likely gonna lose the changer. You'll never use it again anyway if you get a head unit with usb and/or ipod control.

Yes there is an adapter available...if you can actually find one. Crutchfield has one listed but the last time I checked they were out of stock. I want to just add an aux in and I can't seem to find that adapter either

Re: Advice On New Speakers/Amp?

I cant remember what I have in the doors front and rear but I got 2 10" JL w3 in a ported box with a JL 500watt amp and a 1.5 farad cap. It beats but sounds great with everything from talk radio, to metal, dubstep,techno,classic,... It all sounds perfect in my grand cherokee. Ill make sure to post some pics of what I got. I want to get a double din with works and that sweet double din housing.I currently got a pioneer deck that is pretty nice but its time for an update.

Re: Advice On New Speakers/Amp?

I'm currently running a JL 900/5 in the stock amp location fits perfectly but you have to remove the jack accessories. I have xr650's front and rear and love them! Unfortunately they have discontinued that line... I am still using the stock head unit and found an iPod adapter that works with it. It mimics the six disc changer... Here's a video of my w7 pushed by the 900/5. Sorry for the crappy quality it was taken on my old crackberry but it gets the point across.
