Crime's not too bad where I'm at so I might go with it.

Re: Head Unit Replacement

Then I'd also like to throw JVC's name in the mix. I had 2 of them...one each in my XJ and TJ and loved them. They are probably obsolete now, but were din.5 with a nice large screen that played dvd's. Sound quality was very good too. EXAD was the line I believe. Crutchfield.com is great for a resource...

I know what you mean because my eyes have to adjust when I hop out of my WK.

Also, I can stare at the sun behind the tint. That's a shame. I don't think I'll be going so dark with my next auto.

yes and it sounds great. The wire comes out the back of the radio so I ran it into my glovebox. I got a good deal on a 32gb USB drive (12 bucks after rebate), filled it with music, and leave it connected in the glove box. Hours upon hours of music and you control it all with the c.d. player. Organize it into folders with your computer (simple drag/drop, none of that stupid playlist organizing) and you have your entire music collection easily accessible.

my cd player is old but still works great! I got it right when HD radio was being integrated into the player itself... http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ByzCS47...DC-HD942U.html

Sounds like a good idea with the USB drive. That's a shame that particular deck didn't have its inputs on the front for easy access but looks like your wire through the glove box does the job.

Also, why does that deck have 2 radial dials? What are they used for?

Re: Head Unit Replacement

Yeah, the USB drive is convenient, the c.d. player treats it like an MP3 c.d. with the file organization/control. I'm also fine with it not having the inputs on the front, I think it looks cleaner.

The aux. input is also out the back, I ran the cord down and drilled a small hole in the back corner of my "storage" area. Then ran my aux. cable through that, keeping it tucked in until I need to use it. I'll try to take a pic. later if you're interested.

This was kenwood's styling a few yrs ago (the controls were hard to get used to at first) Both dials rotate, press in and all 4 directions (like the PS3 remote) for various controls. If you rotate the dial on the left it controls volume. I use the remote for everything else so I forget what the other functions are haha. There's a good video on that crutchfield link which tells you all about it, and about 2 minutes in you see him manipulating the buttons...

I think if you press the right dial in, it opens the radio presets which you then rotate the dial to select the station you want and press again to go to it. I got sick of trying to press the dial in, hitting a bump on the road and pressing the dial to the side by accident...

The button in the middle, to the left of the right dial is what you press to get into the folder directory, then you can just scroll using the remote... easy once you figure it out... Without the remote this stereo probably would have gone back, b/c you only have two dials that control everything it can get tedius at times...

I like those too but I like the design more of this line of decks.

Regardless though they both seem like they kick a**.

Re: Head Unit Replacement

Good information, hopefully I'll get a new head unit soon. Hopefully things slow down at work again so I can do more to my Jeep lol

Re: Head Unit Replacement

Is it safe to say, that with any aftermarket headunit you have lost the ability to control the headunit via the steering wheel?
