yes and no. Initially you will lose that control, however there are modules you can buy for your specific radio and wire into your vehicle. You then program it to restore the steering wheel controls...

Re: Head Unit Replacement

Ah sweet. Nothing statisfises me more than an answer that leads to more questions :P

I regularly use my steering wheel controls so I will be sad to give them up, but I checked out a few of those products for a kenwood head unit and looks more like a science project (and even I appreciate a good wiring challenge). Anytime someone sends you resistors that you have to solder in yourself, you know your in for a good time!

Also, does anyone have a 10disc CD changer in the back? You guys just letting control of that go as well with a new headunit... I doubt (could be wrong) a replacement head unit can control that, can it?

I gave mine up... as far as I know it won't work.. it was worthless to me anyway since it didn't play MP3 cd's... I consolidated most of my collection to mp3 discs years ago haha.. and now I've consolidated to a single high capacity thumb drive

Re: Head Unit Replacement

What are you going to do with it, just leave it and not use it?

Or remove it in some manner?

It's gon sit and rot like it has been lol, I'm not sure really, like I said I have never been able to use it and I think the retard that had the car before me might have swapped out the factory head because there are no CD controls or changer controls whatsoever

I had one of those aftermarket steering wheel control boxes for my Tacoma a few years ago and while it was nice to still have the controls they were noticeably delayed when comparing to the original controls. This was a deal breaker for me but YMMV.

Re: Head Unit Replacement

bsmith0612 - if you don't find the answer by the time I get home i can check my 04 WJ service manual for you

But check here and scroll down a little and look for the year and sound system that apply to you ---> http://wjjeeps.com/audiowire.htm

This works as good as factory for me and simple hookup too. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120ASWC...WC.html?tp=476
