How to Remove Front Dash speakers?

I'm referring to the speakers on top of the front dashboard, right next to wear the windshield starts. My passenger side one is rattling a lot, and I think it might need replacing. Does the speaker just pop out, or do I have to remove parts of the dashboard to get to it? My Jeep has the upgraded sound system (Infinity, I think), not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Edit: Just to clarify, it is a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Re: How to Remove Front Dash speakers?

Dead easy- I have done it on two WJ so far. A plastic spatula from home depot or similar is the right tool- just slip it under that seam and gently pry off. Start about 6 inches from one end. YOu will hear a "pop" when the first connector goes, and then you just gently work along to the other end. The reason to use the plastic spatula is to avoid marring the plastic trim. I can also recommend a set of speakers that I have installed in both Jeeps- they work great. $40 from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o04_s00_i00

Re: How to Remove Front Dash speakers?

I assume the dash piece just snaps back into place once you get the new speakers put in?

Yup. So long as you have been gentle but firm in removing it. Just align the tabs. I find that a sharp blow with the heel of your hand is all that is required to pop it back in. Trust yourself- you can do this.

Re: How to Remove Front Dash speakers?

Exactly what WJ Fan said...pop off, pop back on. The speakers themselves are just held in with 2 or 3 screws. You might need a stubbie screwdriver, or a small ratchet to get to them...the windshield gets in the way of a regular screwdriver.

Re: How to Remove Front Dash speakers?

as an alternative to the replacement speakers, has anyone heard of JeepTweeter.com? they seem to have decent speakers for relatively the same price as Amazon, but already have the wiring on them. I, too, have the Infinity Gold system and the stocker tweets are crackling to hell and back, and its irritating me. any thoughts?

Also, i will be upgrading ALL of my speakers to Alpines too, except the tweets, unless you guys believe its needed? ill spend the extra money to make sure they last!
