Interior/Dash mod?

Has anyone made any dramatic mods to the dash? In my WJ I plan to install an in-dash computer with a flip up monitor. Of course the 1.5 din stereo causes a conflich (as well as the placement of the vents). So, i am looking at swapping the dash out with a WK dash. But, I don't know if these are compatible or not.

if anyone has any insight, I would be greatful.

Thanks,

I cannot speak for WJ's, but i tried swapping the dash out in a Chevy truck and they were not compatible. same interior style, but since one had more power options it just wouldnt work without MAJOR modifications.

As for Jeeps, i would have to speculate on that and say no, they will not swap out. but thats just my guess.

could you maybe re-route the vents, or make one large vent all the way accross the bottom of the trim around the radio?
also, how big is the computer youre talking about? this could open up more options :D

I can make the computer any size. I'll probably go with a mini ITX config for now. As long as I can tie in the radio, BT, GPS, Ignition, doors, and windows that will suffice. I think I have located all of the pieces I need, it's just the actual dash that's giving me the fits now.

I need to redirect the vents for a few reasons... One is obviously the default WJ location would put the vents right behind the monitor (not good especially in winter). Second is that the heat coming through the vents can cause a computer to overheat (if I install it in the dash as opposed to a remote location). Additionally, I am not confident that I can fabricate a different mounting method without swapping the dash out (aside from a mounted monitor which isn't what I am going for). I really need double din space.

Also, I just like the look of the WK dash better than the WJ's :p
