Replacing Factory Tweeters

Hey!

Has anyone found good aftermarket replacements for the tweeters that blow in the WJ? Something affordable?

Thanks so much in advance!

Re: Replacing Factory Tweeters

I bought some component Alpine speakers for the front and I replaced the old ones with the ones that came with the Alpine's. Sound great too!
I think those were $110. I got Alpine S in the front and E in the back, which was $215. Not a bad deal.

Re: Replacing Factory Tweeters

That seems like a good approach. I might as well replace the front speakers and also the tweeters while I'm at it (since a lower end bundle of those 4 speakers will run me a little over $100).

Would you happen to know off-hand what the specs are for the front speakers and tweeters? I was looking at these:

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KFCP...PS.html?tp=106

Do you know if those specifications will fit?

Thanks for your prompt reply!

Re: Replacing Factory Tweeters

I like Kenwood products (I have a headunit and subs) but their speakers are sub-par. Here are what I have. I spent around a month going store to store, website to website to find the best sound for my budget and this is what I came up with...

Front Speakers and Tweeters

Rear Speakers

^ I'm nearly positive those are them. Install was easy too. I had to drill new holes for the back (easy) and I bought brackets for the front that fit perfectly ($10 for two). WJJEEPS also has a write up on which wires are which so you can wire them correctly.

I bought my speakers locally (front and back) for $215.

Now, the tweeters are tricky. The WJ's have very large tweeters (much larger then Alpine's). I couldn't find a bracket so I had a local audio store do it for me ($30).

So, a full speaker upgrade, tweeters and all would run you about $275 depending how much you get the speakers for.

Re: Replacing Factory Tweeters

I have another question: if I want to replace the front woofers, do I need to remove the entire door panel? Or, does the speaker grill pop right off like the panel covering the tweeters?

Thanks so much in advance!

You have to remove the entire panel. There's a guide if you need one on WJJEEPS for that too. Just be careful, the little clips break very easily. I think I broke three of them while doing mine.

Re: Replacing Factory Tweeters

My tweeters failed over a year ago, searched tinterweb and found these guys(http://www.jeeptweeter.com/CheckoutTwetersafterm.html), ordered a pair from them and they airfreighted them to me in the UK in 6 days!! They were easy to fit, just follow their instructions, done mine in just over an hour. The best part was turning the sounds back on and hearing everything again, so much better than the OEM's.

Re: Replacing Factory Tweeters

I picked up a set on ebay from a store in the US.

Very easy to replace.
