'02 GC Overland start/turn signal problems

Recently I've had two problems that may or may not be related. After driving a finite distance and shutting off the engine it is hard to restart if it's only off for a few minutes.

The other problem is that the left turn signal stops working randomly. This morning on the way to work (12 miles) it stopped working. I shut the engine off when I arrived, turned the key to aux and tried the turn signal. It worked perfectly. Then I tried to start the car. It took 3 tries. It begins to crank then stops. On the 3rd try it started. It acts as if the battery is bad but I had it and the charging system checked last week and both are fine.

I was wondering if these 2 symptoms are related and there is some sort of diagnostic thing going on??

Also was thinking it could be the starter starting to go bad but I hate to start changing expensive items without knowing the real cause.

Otherwise the GC runs great.

Suggestions?

Re: '02 GC Overland start/turn signal problems

I don´t think that these two problems are related. The turn signal problem is most of the time a loose solder on the combination flasher relay board. You could take the relay out, open it and check the solders and re-solder any which shows cracking or other signs of bad contact. If that doesn´t help, you probably need a new combination flasher relay. (this relay is mounted on the junction block under the steering wheel area), or the switch stalk.
Regarding the bad starting, check all electrical connections first: battery poles to be clean from corrosion, starter motor electrical wire connectors and the ground wire to the body. Could indeed be that the starter is going bad.

Thank you for the reply. I know the battery terminals are clean. Just did that a few weeks ago when the problem started. I'll check the other items.
